As of America’s 250th anniversary, 13 Catholics have been canonized who were either born in the United States (including those born during the colonial period), spent a large portion of their lives working and living in America, or were martyred here. In addition, one person, St. Teresa of Calcutta, was given honorary U.S. citizenship — a status bestowed on only eight people throughout history. There are also seven beatified people who were either born in or served as a missionary in the United States and its territories. By the end of 2026, Archbishop Fulton Sheen and the Georgia Martyrs will join the ranks of the beatified.
This exhibit, organized by the Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center, highlights the virtuous lives of these individuals who are recognized by the Catholic Church as intercessors and models of holiness.
